Digital literacy isn’t about the mechanical operational of tools and technology. This project seeks to promote a preparedness for using any existing or future digital communication resource by building confidence and trust in the medium.
The agenda is to work in partnership with not-for-profit organizations, universities, schools, incubation centres, museums, galleries and other interesting spaces to deliver Digital Identity workshops to an audience who might be disengaged or wary of the digital medium. Participants will learn how to create and sustain a personal narrative to express ideas and aspirations. Participants will also receive hands-on training to share this narrative via popular social media platforms such as Twitter and blogs to achieve practical outcomes. For instance, getting noticed by the right audience or running a digital campaign, on the basis of shared values.
Background information

The project is based on a digital engagement workshop series that has been delivered to a wide range of audiences across several countries over two years. These sessions have been run in collaboration with organizations such as Media Trust (London) and De Balie (Amsterdam).
The project is managed by Dr. Abhay Adhikari. He has a research background in Education/ICT and works as a multimedia strategist, having delivered projects for BBC World Service Trust, British Council, Zubaan and so on.

An introduction to Digital Identities at #TEDxYork
Research
There is a certain excitement in getting one’s hands dirty through pure application. However, the central idea that internet + reflection = digital identity can be unpacked, examined and scrutinized in so many ways. Therefore, there is scope to develop exciting transdisciplinary research to evaluate and examines various strands of this project. Please do get in touch via email or on Twitter @digital_spaces if you are interested.
Dr. Adhikari’s PhD research examined the use of biofeedback in primary school music education to introduce breath-training. He developed a breath-training protocol based on CAM techniques – Pranayama, Alexander Technique and Respiratory Physiotherapy. This protocol was used to design an interactive biofeedback gaming device that was evaluated over a 6 month pilot study at a primary school.
